The Community Auxiliary
of the Bridgewater Rescue Squad was organized in October of 1990
with 4 members. The purpose of starting our auxiliary was to
support the Bridgewater Volunteer Rescue Squad and our
surrounding community. At our first meeting ideas were discussed
about fund-raising, increasing membership and deciding on a
slate of officers for the following year. In 1991 we started our
first full year with election of officers. Throughout the year,
we participated in fund-raisers such as bake sales, food booths,
50/50 raffles and a summer yard sale.
For the next few
years we concentrated on gaining more members and raising money
to help support our rescue squad's needs. In April of 1992 we
joined the AVAVRS and the next year we attended convention and
entered our scrapbook for competition. Although we were still a
small group we managed to organize new fund-raisers and start a
few new traditions for the holidays for our auxiliary and squad
members and their families. For Halloween we have an open door
for community kids to trick or treat and play games for a few
hours. At Christmas "Santa" and Mrs. Claus deliver
gifts to all children and grandchildren of squad and auxiliary
members, a good time is had by all who attend, the kids love the
gifts and the adults enjoy the food and fellowship.
As our membership
increased so did our fund-raisers. In the mid 1990's we started
an annual fund-raiser, the Portrait Picture Project. This was a
very successful fund-raiser for our organization and stills
today. We also started to prepare food, decorate and collect
door prizes for our squad's awards banquet held at our local
town hall. We held our first annual auxiliary dinner night out
for members and their spouses. New fund-raisers included
barbecue chicken sales and selling food at our local Labor Day
celebration.
In the year 2000
Xan Stevens, Mary Anhold and Alda Rivercomb were inducted into
life membership. We have remained very busy with all of our
fund-raising efforts earmarking all money from fund-raisers to
help with the cost of our new building. In 2003 we gave our
squad $90,000.00 at their ground breaking ceremony. The building
is now complete. At the end of
2003 Mary Anhold became the Western District Vice President, we
whish Mary well with her new position and look forward to her
leadership in the Western District.
